Letter From the Front
Raymond Roland was a WW1 gunner who served in France and Belgium. He was born and raised on a fruit farm near St. Catharines, Ontario and in every one of his letters to Essie Sann, he mentions how he dreams of the mouthwatering fruit they grew! In one letter, Raymond mentions he has "10 pairs of socks of the heaviest kind" to keep his feet dry when he goes to France. By unravelling a pair of hand-knitted wool socks, I was able to use the crimped yarn to create "writing."
