Horace Hozner was an 18-year-old stretcher bearer during WW1. Enlisting in the First Contingent in 1914, he was taken prisoner by the Germans at the battle of St. Julien near Ypres in 1915. After two and a half years as a POW, he escaped with other prisoners from Dulmen Camp to the Netherlands, and from there to England. He eventually returned to Canada after the war.
