Do You Need a Linda Finn for Over the Couch? watercolour on paper 1990
Linda was born in Parry Sound, Ontario but grew up in Orillia with two brothers and a collection of antique cars. Drawing and painting was encouraged so that by the time she graduated from high school, she made the leap from small-town girl to navigating the subway system in Toronto to attend the Ontario College of Art. Marriage and two sons made for a different type of creativity, but along the way she kept studying—part time at the University of Waterloo’s fine arts department, and then at the Elliot Lake Centre’s Summer School of the Arts when her family moved to Northern Ontario. She felt right at home in the rugged Northern Ontario landscape, and with encouragement from friends had her first solo show in 1976.
Since then, Linda has participated in over 250 group and solo exhibitions, including shows in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Japan. Along the way, she became an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour, the Ontario Society of Artists, the Northern Ontario Art Association, and the Society of Canadian Artists. Linda feels fortunate to have her work in many public, corporate and private collections in Canada and abroad.
She lives in Elliot Lake Ontario, with her husband, Murray—thespian and woodworker.
